Emma Lathen is the pen name of two American businesswomen: an attorney Mary Jane Latsis (July 12, 1927 -October 29, 1997) and an economic analyst Martha Henissart. Signed and dated memorial inscription for late co-author Jane Latsis by co-author Martha Henissart and associate Walter Frank. Stated: ''In Memorium Mary Jane Latsis (1927-1997) Martha Henissart [signature], Walter Frank [signature] Feb 21, 1998''.Emma Lathen is the pen name shared by Mary Jane Latsis and Martha Henissart. They completed 24 novels in the John Putnam Thatcher mystery series set in the world of financial criminal intrigue. The first, Banking on Death in 1961, and the last, A Shark Out of Water in 1997 (the year of Jane Latsis' death), this title being #21 printed in 1991. They also collaborated in a 7 novel series starring Congressman Ben Safford under the pseudonym, R.B. Dominic published between 1968-1984. Mr. Frank, a Cambridge investment executive, was not the model for John Putnam Thatcher, but over the years he displayed a certain gallantry. In a concession to an old-fashioned sense of propriety and Miss Latsis's aversion to marriage, she and Mr. Frank maintained a 40-year romance while maintaining separate residences. He is her only survivor. 268 pages.
