An account of a day's apple harvesting at Harvard Fruit Farm in the Nashoba Valley of Massachusetts, written by the owner of the orchard. Focus is on getting good temporary labor at the right time. Has 2 b/w photos of the orchards. 'The following treatise on harvesting apples was written in 1950. In having it published now, without change, a decade later, I do so that there may be some sort of record left of orchard operations as practiced by the small commercial apple grower, now fast vanishing from the field of agriculture, and of which the writer was a part for so many years...In choosing to write of the harvest, rather than any of the various other operations throughout the year, I did so because of its age old universal appeal as a period of fulfillment and plenty, a period of long busy days in the open filled with Autumn sunshine and wholesome, simple work.'
